Parenting your Highly Capable (HiCap)/Gifted Worrier

Online Parent Group

Are you concerned about the worry in your family? Has the pandemic taken a toll on you and your children's ability to deal with stressors? Does it feel like you and/or your children are under intense pressure to “succeed,” yet your family’s path is riddled with things like stomach aches brought on by stress, temper tantrums, fear of failure, shyness, avoidance, sleep problems, and even anxiety attacks? You are not alone. Families with highly capable (HiCap)/gifted/2e children and teens often experience intense worry and stress brought on by perfectionism, expectations, and characteristics that are unique to HiCap families.

This parent group was developed to provide parents/guardians with tools and resources that will help reduce the unhelpful anxiety in their homes. Materials provided and discussed will include evidenced-based cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) techniques applied to the unique characteristics of HiCap/gifted families.  In this highly interactive, on-line group, you will:
  • Explore how the pandemic and being HiCap/gifted often contributes to anxiety
  • Learn techniques for calming anxiety in yourself and your kids
  • Practice techniques between sessions and discuss what worked and what didn't work
  • Gain insights from the experiences of other parents
